LSU A&M’s current student information system (SIS) was built in-house over 30 years ago using technology that is no longer taught in schools, making it difficult to find developers who can work with our system. This posed issues with both maintenance and modernization to keep up with rapidly evolving academic needs.
LSUE had similar needs for an updated, modernized solution. Implementing a new student information system at both institutions also served as an opportunity to rethink the tools, processes, policies and structures that support our academic mission and to make enhancements that better serve our students, faculty and staff.
LSU worked as a system to identify and vet numerous products that met our goal of implementing a cloud-based, state-of-the-art solution to achieve a unified SIS across these campuses. Through a competitive, two-year RFP process, multiple vendors were identified, and finalists were invited to present their products. A cross-institutional evaluation committee reviewed these presentations, evaluated campus feedback, and considered vendor proposals. The committee ultimately selected Workday Student as LSU’s new SIS.
This also allows us to expand upon the services we already have with Workday.

This website has the most up-to-date information about the Workday Student project, as well as background information.
No. Workday is one unified system. We are adding "Student" functionality within the Workday system we are already using. Users with access to student functionality will find those items within the same LSU Workday platform they are using today.
LSU A&M and LSUE began using Workday for student functionality in early Spring 2025. If you are an active student, faculty, or staff member at either of these institutions, you have access to Workday Student.
Readiness & Training
LSU A&M utilizes a training approach that provides necessary training to support users as they use the student functionalities of Workday. The type of training offered is dependent on the task(s) conducted or role(s) held by the end-user.
Because our student, faculty and staff needs are so diverse across multiple roles, the training approach centers on asynchronous resource materials, categorized by population and content. Training Resources
At initial project launch, users were assigned a "Learning Journey" they could follow to find appropriate resources and understand the functionalities of Workday they will utilize.
Learning Journeys were communicated in late January 2025 which allowed adequate time to prepare for system use in March.
On-going training for new employees or users new to roles in Workday will be delivered by subject matter experts within each academic unit. Additional training needs should be communicated to the appropriate functional office on campus (Bursar, Registrar, Financial Aid, etc.)
As we prepared to use the student functionalities of Workday, communication was sent, according to assigned roles in Workday, to faculty and staff to provide guidance on anticipated use of the system and which training materials users should reference.
Roles were assigned to users throughout the design and configuration stage(s) of the project.
If you feel you have been assigned a role incorrectly, or if you do not currently have a role, but your job responsibilities warrant a role in Workday, you can submit an WDSAR request.
To understand how Workday uses roles, watch the Beyond the Basics video titled Workday Security & Roles. You can find this video in the Getting Started section of resources for each audience. Training Resources
Teaching faculty can expect to begin utilizing Workday to access course section information, including rosters and room locations beginning in Summer 2025.
Faculty will be able to submit interim (midterm) and final grades in Workday beginning in Summer 2025. If faculty prefer to submit using Moodle, that option will remain available.
Step-by-Step guides for all faculty-related Workday tasks are located on this website.
Faculty advisors can expect to receive communication from their respective colleges/the graduate school with additional training information specific to advising-related functionality in Workday.
This question is a bit nuanced, as we recognize our staff fulfill various roles across campus. The important thing to consider is your job responsibilities that currently occur in our legacy Mainframe system. Those tasks will be moving to Workday or another software solution. If you transacted in Mainframe, you will receive appropriate communication in late January 2025 regarding your role in Workday and next steps. If you did not receive information in February 2025, please submit a WDSAR request to initiate the access request process.
We are most excited for you, our students, during this transition to Workday. You can expect to find a modern system that will assist you in quickly finding and registering for courses, planning courses for your degree and managing your student financial responsibilities.
You will use Workday to find and register for your courses, view your grades, view your charge assessments & financial aid, and access bill payment features.
We encourage all students to consult the reference guides on this website to prepare.
Please pay close attention to all communication received from your academic colleges and departments during this time. Your support staff and faculty are learning this new system alongside you and we are all navigating this major change together.
Step by Step Guides and Resource Videos are available to help you understand student related tasks and processes in Workday. Find the guides, by audience, here.
If you are seeking assistance for non-student related tasks in Workday (Payroll, Purchasing, etc.) please reference the main Workday website.
