Immobilization/Booting Policy

Per our Rules and Regulations, “The University reserves the right to remove, impound, or immobilize (boot) illegally parked or abandoned vehicles, non-motor vehicles, bicycles, any vehicle on campus without a permit, with an unauthorized, counterfeit, or altered parking permit, with no license plate, habitually violating the Parking Rules & Regulations or any vehicle, non-motor vehicle or bicycle parked so as to constitute a hazard to the smooth flow of either pedestrian or vehicular traffic.”

To assist in the efficiency of our department operations, starting Fall 2025, PTS will be utilizing a “smart boot” immobilization system to enforce the booting of vehicles on campus.

Reasons for Booting

An individual may have their car immobilized for any of the following reasons:

  • Outstanding Citations: 3 or more unpaid citations (older than 30 days) with a balance of $400 or more.

  • The vehicle is displaying an Altered/Counterfeit/Lost/Stolen parking decal.

  • Administrative scofflaw or direction.

How to Unlock

The PayLock boot devices allow individuals to remove the boot themselves after making payment. This is for the motorist’s convenience, and no one is forced to remove the boot themselves should they choose not to for any reason. Self-removal of the boot may save motorists several hours of their time and is available 24 hours a day.

You can remove the boot by following these instructions:

  1. Go to lsu.mybootinfo.com

  2. Look up your license plate information and provide the boot violation code

  3. Make a payment to receive the unlock code

  4. Enter the code to unlock the boot from your vehicle

  5. Return the boot to one of the designated return locations

    • LSU Union Square Parking Garage
      • E Campus Drive
        Baton Rouge, LA 70802
    • LSU Gateway Garage
      • Gateway Center Ln
        Baton Rouge, LA 70802
  6. You have 48 hours to return the boot to a designated location. If the boot is not returned to a designated location within 48 hours of being unlocked, you will inquire an additional $50 fine each day the boot is not returned for the first five days, followed by a $750 on the sixth day (totaling the $1,000 lost/stolen boot fee).
