“ Established under Louisiana Revised Statute §1492 (Acts 1997, No. 239, §1), the Louisiana Geological Survey (LGS), housed at Louisiana State University, is dedicated to advancing the understanding of Louisiana’s surface and subsurface geology. Our mission is to maintain accurate, up-to-date geological surveys and data for the entire state, supporting research, education, and public service through the collection, analysis, and dissemination of geological information. In cooperation with state agencies, local governments, and other partners, LGS works to inform responsible resource management, environmental stewardship, and policy decisions that benefit Louisiana and its people. ”
