Biography

Sussette Salter-Housel is a Full-Time English Instructor at Louisiana State University, where she teaches composition, literature, fiction, poetry, and folklore. She also teaches folklore courses in Anthropology, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to storytelling, culture, and narrative traditions. She holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Social Sciences with a minor in English and a Master of Liberal Arts with an English concentration in Folklore, Southern Writers, and Socio-linguistics from Northwestern State University of Louisiana.
Her teaching and scholarship emphasize folklore studies, Southern literature, and women’s voices, with a particular interest in how stories shape cultural identity, belief systems, and social memory. She enjoys teaching a wide range of literary genres, including Shakespeare, early American literature, science fiction, fantasy, drama, dystopian literature, and poetry. Known for her student-centered and inquiry-driven pedagogy, she designs courses that encourage critical thinking, rhetorical awareness, and interdisciplinary exploration. She is passionate about making literature accessible, meaningful, and relevant to contemporary students.
